The famous Japanese car company Toyota Corporation said it will invest nearly 3 billion dollars in the development of automatic driving vehicle software, which is the latest action of the largest Japanese car company in the driverless vehicle.

TOYOTA announced, with two suppliers aixinjingji (Aisin Seiki Co) and Denso (Denso Corp) to set up a new joint venture company is located in Tokyo of Japan, named TOYOTA Senior Research Development Institute (Toyota Research Institute-Advanced Development, TRI-AD), and that will be invested a total of 300 billion yen ($2 billion 800 million) for the construction of the new company. The new company will be formally established in the end of this month, is expected to employ 300 employees, after the number of employees will be increased to 1000, which will include from outside of TOYOTA automobile, TOYOTA Research Institute, and the cooperation of the company and the Japanese Denso, Aisin Seiki, new recruits.

Toyota Corporation spokesman Galt (Jean-Yves Jault) said that the Toyota Corporation has developed a relevant internal unmanned vehicle schedule, which started in 2020 before the sale can automatic driving on the highway TOYOTA car, after a few years the company's driverless car will have the ability to drive on the city streets. The newly established company will build a communication bridge for researchers from the TOYOTA AI research institute in California, and the automotive design engineers in Japan.

The new company will be led by James Kunav (James Kuffner), the former co founder of the Google robotics department and the chief technical officer of the current TOYOTA California Institute. He said: "with the rapid development of driverless technology in the world, there are a lot of automatic driving software developed, but their quality is uneven." Toyota Corporation emphasized that the mission of the new company is to ensure that TOYOTA's driverless technology is reliable enough to produce TOYOTA driverless car that consumers can buy at ease.

Nowadays, more and more car manufacturers are starting to set up their own driverless vehicle department, trying to recruit top software engineers who have never worked in traditional car companies.

TOYOTA motor is choosing the location for the new joint venture in Tokyo, and indicates that the employees of the new company will use English office, which is undoubtedly to attract a wider range of employees.

"We do not impose a lot of restrictions on the recruitment of the new company," the Toyota Corporation spokesman said. It will have to be a global team, and the best way to achieve this goal is to establish a new company independent of Toyota Corporation. This new company has different rules from TOYOTA, just like an entrepreneurial company.

Last year, another Japanese car enterprise in Japan opened a research institute specializing in artificial intelligence technology in Tokyo city. The company has also said it is necessary to establish a start-up to attract talent.

Now, auto makers are competing for limited programmers, data scientists, and artificial intelligence experts. Japanese car companies have their own weaknesses, such as language barriers and low salary to software engineers in Japan, so some car companies, such as TOYOTA, choose to set up R & D centers in the US.

Over the past few years, Toyota Corporation President Akiotoyoda (Akio Toyoda) has made the company pay more attention to electric vehicles and driverless cars, and constantly changes TOYOTA's management team. On Friday, Philip Craven (Philip Craven), President of the International Paralympic Games before TOYOTA nomination, joined the board of directors.
